Fly Tying Competition
Whether you're an experienced fly tier or just starting out, we'd love you to take part in our Fly Tying Competition.
This year's theme is "A Fly for Caithness" – tie a trout fly inspired by the waters, wildlife and landscapes of Caithness. Traditional patterns are welcome, or you can create your own original design.
There will be two classes:
-
Junior (Under 16)
-
Adult (16+)
All flies should be tied on a size 10 standard wet fly hook, with competitors free to use natural or synthetic materials. Entries will be judged on quality of tying, proportions, fishability, finish and originality.
For our younger competitors, imagination is encouraged! Create your own freestyle pattern, experiment with colours and materials, and don't forget to give your fly a memorable name.
Our competition will be judged by respected local fly tier Conan Fyvie, who will also be demonstrating fly tying throughout the day.
Rosettes and prizes will be awarded in both the Junior and Adult categories.
Come along, have a go, and celebrate the creativity and craftsmanship of fly tying at the Thrumster Game and Countryside Fair. Whether your fly is destined for the fly box or the trophy table, we look forward to seeing your creation!
